Who is the best player in the Premiership? By ‘best’ I don’t mean ‘most talented’ or ‘most skilful’ – I mean ‘most valueable’. According to the Actim Index  – the FA Premier League’s official player rating, based on just about every stat there is – the best player currently playing in the top-flight is… Andy Johnson.

Everton’s baldy striker (he used to have hair – look!) currently heads the Actim Index by a mile, with a rating of 142. Bobby Zamora is in second place, on 112, with Kanu in third (111). Click on the link above to see the Top 100 in full.

Do you agree with this? There’s no doubt Johnson has made a terrific start to his Everton career. Actim’s stats do seem weighted in favour of strikers though. Surely Sol Campbell or David James – or anyone in Portsmouth’s defence, for that matter – deserve a place in the top three?

I’d plump for Drogba myself, he’s been quite good.
