Micah_richardsManchester City youngster Micah Richards is the only new face in the England squad to face Holland on Wednesday. The 18-year-old right-back has been named in the 28-man squad, as recommended by Pies after the Macedonia game in September.

Steve McClaren has resisted the temptation to call-up fellow under 21 internationals Leighton Baines and Theo Walcott for the match. The returns from injury of Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon and Andrew Johnson provide more fresh blood, while Kieran Richardson misses out.

I’m pleased to see Richards in the squad. He is always solid in defence, exciting on the ball and pacy. A good decision, Pies public?

too soon to bring a full back into the full international squad. the best path for him is a couple more years in the under-21s and at city, then a move to a bigger club and the full international side.
    very promising player though.

I think McClaren has the right idea in some respects. The England team is stagnant at the moment and they need a spark. I think some new blood with genuine pace might make a big difference. Richards may be a bit young but some players respond better to being thrown in at the deep end rather than being led down the steps in the shallow end.

what does gareth barry have to do to get in the squad? got no problem with richards getting a call up, but to compare downing and barry and call up downing is unbelievable.

Yea I agree, Downing showed some promise but doesn’t seem to have much impact anymore while Barry is in pretty tremendous form of late.
