NewellSelf-confessed sexist Mike Newell is to keep his job as manager of Luton Town. Newell has been severely reprimanded by the club, but remains in his post despite criticism of female assistant referee Amy Rayner and chairman Bill Tomlins.

A club statement said: "Any repetition of such conduct will not be tolerated." The cynics among you might think Newell has only kept his job because tearing up his brand spanking new contract would cost the Hatters too much. And you’re probably right! Should Newell have been shown the door?

I think Luton’s place in the table should determine if he keeps his job. This is where people who are politically correct cross the line. He guy has a right to voice his opinion, bigoted though it might be, without fear of being sacked. If this isn’t attempted thought control I don’t know what is. And I do NOT agree with Newell. If there were 10 women refs good enough to catch Cristiano Ronaldo at his diving antics I’d say let them do all the matches.
