Injury-plagued Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has begged to play in the Carling Cup tie with Watford tonight in a pair of goggles. The 27-year-old is out of action with an eye injury after a long layoff with hamstring trouble.
Dyer asked to play in a pair of Edgar Davids-style goggles, but medical staff have told him that the eyewear would not be suitable to wear with his injury. His under-pressure boss Glenn Roeder said: "Because of the nature of the injury to his eye, we knew we had to go along with what the experts told us and that is what we have done." [Via Soccernet]
