Terry.JPGEngland captain John Terry ripped a shirt out of the hands of his Andorra counterpart following Wednesday night’s Euro 2008 qualifier. Terry waded in to retrieve Jermain Defoe’s shirt from Oscar Sonjee. The Chelsea man was unhappy at Andorra’s intimidation tactics and attempted to stop the England players swapping shirts in the tunnel.
Sonjee moaned: “It was a really ugly moment. I had Defoe’s shirt in my hand to swap for mine. But Terry rammed into me with a really hard shove and snatched it. I was stunned. It was humiliating. No team has ever refused to honour the custom of exchanging shirts with us before.” [Via The Sun, Rob Parker]

    Good!
thats all they deserved, im pleased to hear JT did that because they were scum who only got to be on the pitch because of a loophole saying their country gets a team in the qualifying stages!
only the keeper played actual football and they certainly were NOT fit to hold an England shirt.
    right on i say.

It’s a bit churlish of Terry, but I understand why he did it – Andorra’s tactics were a disgrace.

  3. Jorge says:

I feel sorry for the Andorran amateurs but the tradition of exchanging shirts occurs between players that honored the game in the field. You don’t just show up, do whatever it takes to get a point, and expect to be respected at the end of the game.

  4. Regular Joe says:

Spot on Joe! I applaud Terry. If you play like dirt, expect to get treated like it. In my opinion, the pleasantries of exchanging shirts exist if its been a hard-fought but fair contest. When its as cynical as that, all bets are off. He was probably going to pop Defoe’s shirt on ebay anyway.
