beckham%2C%20galaxy.jpgLA Galaxy have appointed themselves the footb… soccer ( I’ll get used to that some time) version of the Harlem Globetrotters. The MLS outift – who not so long ago were concerned about the effect of David Beckham jetting back to England for international games – have decided that a David Beckham Travelling Circus is the solution to their problems.

The Galaxy already have a game against in Australia Sydney FC finalised for November, and are also expected to tour Asia with their new prize possession. Chief Executive Tim Leiweke: “I think the greatest opportunity for the Galaxy is touring and doing international matches.
“I don’t think it is $6m a game but I think it could be a pretty good percentage of that . . . if you can do six games a year, that can add a significant amount of value to the team and its revenue.”
And is if that in-your-face commercialism wasn’t excruciating enough, he added: “We’re still focused on training in Asia and doing games there next year at the beginning of the season and I think it’s more than likely we’re going to take a trip over to ‘Jolly Old’ England and do a game or two over there next year as well.”
Jolly Old England? Oh dear! So Pies can conclude:
1 David Beckham’s Air Miles are going to be worth nearly as much as his wages!
2 All Americans involved in the ownership of football clubs are fluent in the language of Cringe.
3 Galaxy are not likely to be interested in loaning Becks to an English club during their money-spinning winter break.
