74376604.jpgJamie Carragher has confirmed that he will not return to international football. After finally getting a guaranteed first team place, the Scouse defender has decided he doesn’t want it – but is he sticking to his guns or shooting himself in the foot?.
Carragher is tired of being continuously overlooked by his country, despite being considered one of the finest defenders on the Continent. And, when McLaren opted for an unfit Ledley King in the last match against Estonia, his patience ran out.
Despite a face-to-face meeting with the England manager on Monday, McLaren couldn’t convince the Liverpool stalwart to change his mind.

‘I met Jamie on Monday and had a very good conversation but unfortunately he’s stayed with the decision to not be involved with us,” he told Sky Sports News.
With John Terry, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate out injured, we’re unusually short of centre back cover for the decisive European qualifiers – even Sol Campbell is being mooted for a comeback.
I’m surprised by Carragher’s decision, especially as he’s such a commited player for his club, but do you think he’s right or wrong to turn his back on his country?

Carragher has been neglected by England for far too long,he’s a better defender than Rio Ferdinand and should have been given his chance.
McClaren deserves everything he gets,he’s another bluffer who picks players based on newspaper reports which is exactly what Sven did

  2. Bamie Barragher says:

I’ve been.. He’s been ignored for way too long and severely underpaid. England f**ked him before so now its m.. his turn to f**k them!

I think he’s right, at least, until The FA ditches McLaren.

naah. the bloke’s not that good anyway. i go with mcclaren.

  5. Col says:

Not that good? Only part of the best defence in the Prem last season.
Another reason why McClaren is a tool. You cannot fault Jamie for being upset. Bet it was a tough decision to make and i’m glad he’s standing by it.

  6. Jon says:

To be left out in favour of Wes Clown and Ledly King after waiting so long for a chance would rile anybody. Fair play to him. Nothing wrong with wanting to focus his efforts on his club. Also, other players have done the same without people questioning it, so I don’t see a problem here either.

  7. James says:

Carragher, never gonna be first XI, Ledley is better than him. So he’s fourth choice at best.
The bloke is a fool for turning down England, if he’s not prepared to fight for it, he doesn’t deserve it. What a loser.
I’m disappointed in McClaren for even asking him to re-consider. But then McClaren hates the thought of anyone not liking him. Its just as bad as what Bentley did, if not worse.

If I won the Champs League but still couldn’t get a run out over Ledley King I wouldn’t come back either.

  9. ab says:

how can you not see his undoubted quality?
for about 5 years he has been the heart of the liverpool defence and whole squad for that matter, helping them to two european cup finals and an fa cup win.
his attitude is summised from his performance in istanbul, where he suffered from cramp in the dying minutes of extra time but still managed to keep shevchenko at bay
i certainly dont remember ferdinand, terry, ledley king achieving remotely as much success as carragher
he’s a top class player and it’s about time people took notice to him instead of shit players with big price tags.
