How to rebuild an ancient team, by AC Milan - buy back Andriy Shevchenko from Chelsea, and unretire Paolo Maldini

1082497.jpgAC Milan overlord Silvio Berlusconi has been making noises about wanting to buy back Sheva - he's like the son I never had, sniff - from Chelsea. 'Shevchenko is a player who is ready to help and would be the ideal solution,' Berlusconi told Italian media.

Er, okay Silvio, if you think that's the best way to transform an ailing, ageing team, then fill your boots. I know Milan need a short-term replacement for the crocked Ronaldo, but wouldn't it be better to go for someone younger (and cheaper), who could be a part of the rebuilding process? Chelsea, for their part, should cash in on Sheva now, whilst they can make some money back on a dud investment.

Couple this with the news that Paolo Maldini might reconsider his decision to retire at the end of this season, and I get the feeling that Milan are living in the past, and with their head in the sand (two cliches for one there). Arsenal showed them the way forward earlier this week, but perhaps reality hasn't bitten yet.

Recognise him, Chelsea fans?
