Having found himself in the middle of the Andrei Arshavin/Arsene Wenger booing controversy at the Emirates at the the weekend, teenage winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has apparently now played himself into Fabio Capello’s plans for the Euro 2012 finals.

The ex-Southampton starlet was arguably Arsenal’s best player in that 2-1 defeat Man United on Sunday, and his performance obviously impressed the watching England boss, who is planning to try out the attacker in a number of friendlies ahead of next summer

Oxo-Chamberpot has been in superb form for the England U21’s, even bagging a hat-trick against Iceland last October, but is he really ready to play a role in the Three Lions’ Euro 2012 campaign? Or will it be another case of too much too soon á la Theo Walcott?

  1. Archbishop Betty Snagcock says:

do what brazil did with ronaldo world cup 94 and take him as the extra goalkeeper to get him tournament experience

  2. Paul says:

This could be his becoming on age, he’s been absolutely brilliant form this season and could actually do a job. Whereas Theo ‘all i can do is run and have no end product’ Walcott has had too much praise, and too much time to mature, and will only get slower which will lead to his demise.

  3. Davy says:

If you’re good enough you’re old enough etc etc but to be honest i agree with that. Why wouldn’t he be ready?

  4. AT says:

Hope we do take him and play him, opposing teams (and us) won’t really know what to expect, his pace will frighten other teams

  5. gooner says:

too much hype if u ask me and sorry paul u cant judge him to be in such “brilliant form” when hes hardly played

  6. Scott says:

If he gets more regular playtime for Arsenal (he should be ahead of Arshavin and knocking on Walcott’s door) then I don’t see why not. It shouldn’t be about age, but form and ability.

  7. Where_JP_At says:

    @archbisopbetty — brilliant!!

  8. dc says:

shouldnt be too early as long as he becomes a regular, which he should. hes got a bit of composure that theo has never had– when he gets caught out, he just holds onto the ball and passes it back rather than trying some stupid move to beat the defender and losing the ball. theo isnt exactly stewart downing in that respect but the ox has a bit of maturity that the england players tend to lack

  9. Sultan says:

I’d say play him in midfield instead of Lamps and Walcott…could provide the spark England misses in midfield…Young,Johnson,Ox and Parker should be great for England midfield…
