Photos: Sol Campbell in action for Arsenal Reserves against West Ham
By Ollie Irish
Sol Campbell is set to make a shock re-signing for Arsenal this week after he played 45 minutes for their reserves against West Ham last night - that was the plan, according to Neil Banfield, manager of Arsenal’s reserves. After the match, Banfield hailed Campbell as a “first-class professional”.
Arsenal won the match 4-2 – and neither of the Hammers’ goals were scored when Sol was on the pitch.
This surely spells the end of poor Philippe Senderos’s Arsenal career, as the signing of Sol is the exact opposite of an endorsement for the Swiss centre-back.
For his part, an excited Campbell said:
“I hope to sign for Arsenal until the end of the season. I need to get minutes under my belt, a couple of reserve games at least, before I can start looking any further ahead.
“There are still a few technicalities to iron out but it’s fantastic, great, marvellous.
“I’m ecstatic to be back and I have worked hard to get there. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not stupid. He wouldn’t have taken me back if he didn’t like what he has seen.”
