Norwich City 1-0 Arsenal – Premier League – 20th October 2012

Arsenal caught with their pants down at Carrow Road…

Norwich secured their first league win of the season in the late game on Saturday, against a lacklustre Arsenal side who, once again, failed to make their possession count.

For all Arsene Wenger’s astute summer signings, he once again failed to strengthen his goalkeeping options and with No. 1 Wojciech Szczęsny still sidelined by injury and Lukas Fabianski crocked for another few months, it has fallen to third choice glovesman Vito Mannone to man the pumps. And at Carrow Road on Saturday, it was the Italian’s error which handed the home side the only goal of the game. After failing to adequately deal with a long-range effort from Alexander Tettey, Mannone could only watch as Grant Holt fired home. And that was that.

To be fair, despite the Gunners’ huge amount of possession, the Canaries deserved the win, with Santi Cazorla tightly marked and genuine chances for the north Londoners few and far between.

The result sees Chris Hughton’s men move out of the drop zone, while Arsenal now find themselves 10 points behind leaders Chelsea, with a mediocre 12 points out of a possible 24. Is Jens Lehmann still fit?
