Having unofficially retired, Robert Pires tends to spend his free time sunning himself in Greek coastal resorts these days, though his weekend wasn’t quite as relaxing as he’d hoped when, having settled in to watch a local friendly match between Storm Rafina and AO Mykonos, the former French World Cup winner was spotted in the crowd.

Not that it resulted in a flurry of autograph requests or excited fans bugging him for photos, oh no. Instead, finding themselves 1-2 down, the Storm Rafina players approached Pires at the interval and asked him if he’d mind turning out for their side in the second half to give them a bit of added fire power.

The 39-year-old Arsenal legend duly obliged and unsurprisingly proved to be the difference as he both scored a goal and set up another as Storm Rafina came from behind to win the game 3-2…
