Arsenal 4-0 Coventry City – FA Cup Fourth Round – 24th January 2014

Soccer - FA Cup - Fourth Round - Arsenal v Coventry City - Emirates Stadium

A first-half brace from Lukas Podolski and late goals from subs Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla secured a comfortable win for Arsenal against League One side Coventry. The home side, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain starting in central midfield, totally dominated the first perido and could have scored more than the two they managed. However, after the break the visitors were much improved, with Carl Baker impressing in midfield. Indeed, as the Gunners took their foot off the gas, Coventry came mighty close to scoring one or two but as the game wore on, the visitors tired, leaving the Gunners sub to seal the deal.

German/American/Ethiopian starlet Gedion Zelalem also made his debut for Arsenal, becoming the first player to do so having being born after Arsene Wenger took over many moons ago. The visiting fans also highlighted the ridiculous situation concerning their lack of a home ground in Coventry, putting on a couple of protests which were applauded by the home fans. Oh, and the lights went out and some loon ran onto the pitch. Quite an eventful evening all in all!
