It may have taken an extremely unlucky Mathieu Flamini goal at the death to secure a 2-2 draw for visitors Swansea at the Emirates, but a share of the spoils was the least the Welsh side deserved on the night.

Arsenal were poor throughout with the Gunners struggling to create any chances at all. Swansea, on the other hand, looked far livelier and eventually took the lead when Wilfried Bony headed home on 11 minutes. However, the second-half introduction of Lukas Podolski re-energised the Gunners, and the German duly leveled the scores after good work from Kieran Gibbs. Podolski then superbly set up Olivier Giroud to make it 2-1 as the home side looked to have weathered the storm. But then, with the game almost over, Leon Britton’s surge into the Arsenal box culminated in the ball hitting Wojcech Szczesny before ricocheting off Flamini and into the Arsenal net.

Then, Jonathan De Guzman was sent clear with only the Arsenal ‘keeper to beat only for Lee Probert to blow for full-time, a decision which infuriated the Swansea players and coaching staff. Arguably, it was a lucky let-off for the Gunners but overall it was still a disastrous end to a disastrous period in Arsenal’s season. With Everton and Spurs closing in, a top-four place could now even be in danger for Arsene Wenger’s side.
