Arsenal 2-0 Borussia Dortmund – Champions League Group D – 26th November 2014
A much-improved Arsenal performance saw the north Londoners secure a deserved win against Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates on Wednesday, a result which sees Arsene Wenger’s men once again qualify for the last 16.
Much-maligned French striker Yaya Sanogo opened the scoring for the Gunners in the first-half, firing home after a one-two with the impressive Santi Cazorla. The already-qualified Dortmund pushed for an equaliser but were thwarted by reserve ‘keeper Damien Martinez before Alexis Sanchez made it 2-0 courtesy of superb curled effort.
Unless Dortmund lose to Anderlecht and Arsenal win at Galatasaray, the Gunners will once again go into the knockout stages as a runner-up. Although more pressing for Wenger may be the injury to Mikel Arteta which looks like keeping his captain out for a significant length of time.
