Manchester City 0-2 Arsenal – Premier League – 18th January 2015
Arsenal produced an outstanding disciplined display at the Etihad on Sunday, winning a game which severly dents Man City’s title aspirations.
With Francis Coquelin solid in the defensive midfield role and Santi Cazorla superb both in defence and attack, Arsenal were a very different outfit battered 6-3 in this fixture last season. The goal came courtesy of a hotly-disputed penalty, with Mike Dean judging Vincent Kompany to have blocked the run of Nacho Monreal. Cazorla fired home the spot-kick to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second-period, the Citizens pushed and pushed for a goal but were scuppered time and time again by the hard-working visitors. Then, on 67 minutes, Cazorla floated a fine free-kick into the City box which was headed home by Olivier Giroud. After that, the hosts went close but couldn’t get themselves back into the game, leaving Arsene Wenger’s men to secure a famous victory.
Manuel Pellegrini’s charges are now five points behind leaders Chelsea while the Gunners go fifth, a point off the top-four.
