Arsenal 2-0 Middlesbrough – FA Cup Fifth Round – 15th February 2015

Championship high-fliers Middlesbrough failed to follow up their shock win at the Etihad with another big scalp in the FA Cup, with holders Arsenal proving too good for Aitor Karanka’s men.

The two goals, which both came courtesy of the in-form Olivier Giroud, came on 27 and 29 minutes but the Gunners dominated for the full 90 minutes, with Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez superb in possession. Indeed, check out this sexy passing graphic for Giroud’s opener…

The visitors struggled to cope with the hosts’ passing and movement although striker Kike did hit the post late on. With Gabriel also looking solid (if rarely tested) on his club debut, Arsenal boss can he happy with his day’s work overall.

Arsenal cruise into the last eight while Boro must now focus on joining the north Londoners in the Premier League for 2015/16.
