Mesut Ozil is set to sign a bumper new five-deal with Arsenal and in doing so take the club’s coveted No. 10 shirt away from Jack Wilshere. That’s according to German outlet Sport Bild who claim the deal will be announced imminently.

With Ozil, who starred in Arsenal’s 3-0 mauling at the weekend, will be out of contract at the Emirates in 2018, the club have been working hard to tie down their star playmaker to a new deal. Now it looks as though the 27-year-old is set to extend his stay in north London via a big-money new deal.

Interestingly, the reports also suggest that Ozil will finally get to wear his favoured number 10 shirt. With the club’s current no. 10, Jack Wilshere, out on loan at Bournemouth and by no means assured of his place in the Gunners’ side when he returns, the shirt will be passed over to Ozil. However, this won’t happen until next season although one imagines Wilshere won’t be too happy!

Arsenal fans will no doubt be over the moon (and relieved) to see Ozil committing to another five years with the club, they’ll now be hoping that Alexis Sanchez follows suit, with the Chilean also out of contract in 2018.

After a shaky start, Arsene Wenger’s side, strengthened by summer-signings Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, are looking more solid than they have in years. Could this be the season that the Gunners finally get their hands back on the Premier League title?
