After their 2-2 home draw with PSG last time out, Arsenal’s hopes of finishing top of Group A were slim. However, while PSG could only draw at home to Ludogorets Razgrad, the Gunners overtook the French giants courtesy of a convincing 4-1 win away to Basel.

Spanish summer-signing Lucas Perez was the star of the show for the Premier League side, with the striker bagging a hat-trick.

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil both showed their class throughout, however much of their creative threat came from left-back Kieran Gibbs, who made the most of his start by setting up a couple of the Perez goals.

Alex Iwobi, via a superb Ozil assist, netted the visitors fourth of the game on 53 minutes as Arsene Wenger’s men strolled to victory.

An error from youngster Rob Holding eventually led to a late consolation goal for sub Seydou Doumbia.

However, Arsenal would end the game 4-1 winners and top of Group A.

Despite now dodging the likes of Barcelona in the last 16 draw, the Gunners could still face second-place sides such as Bayern Munich and possibly Real Madrid.

Still, finishing atop Group A (for the first time since 2011/12) is sure to give the north Londoners a serious confidence boost ahead of the domestic Christmas schedule.
