Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin has admitted he would relish the opportunity to play for Barcelona.

The wee Russian came close to joining the Catalan side from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer of 2008, before moving to north London in January 2009.

The Meerkat has admitted that the opportunity to join Pep Guardiola’s European champions would be too good to refuse.

“Even playing just one season for Barcelona would make a pinnacle of my whole career,” the Arsh told Sport-Express.

“Barca are the best team in the world and I enjoy their style of play so much. But after watching them against Arsenal the enjoyment has quickly turned into sorrow – they are so much better than anybody else at the moment.”

There’s nothing in this, clearly. It’s hardly a ‘come and get me!’ plea. But I find it interesting just how many players admire Barcelona and make no secret of it. I bet if you asked every pro in Europe which team they would love to play for above any other, Barcelona would top the wish-list by miles.
