Arsenal battled to a rather unconvincing 1-0 win against Leicester on Wednesday night.

However, on a rather dull evening at the Emirates, the most entertaining moment came late on, with Alexis Sanchez and Christian Fuchs getting involved in a bizarre hoo-ha over a long-throw.

With Leicester a goal down and the game into injury time, Fuchs attempted to launch a long-throw into the Arsenal box, only for Sanchez to try to block the full-back. Queue a nice little bit of nonsense…

Sanchez’s dramatic collapse is quite something although surely Fuchs should have been booked as well?

Despite the histrionics, Sanchez did finish the game with a cut lip…

As for the game itself, the dour encounter was decided by a very lucky goal, with Nacho Monreal’s shot deflected into the Leicester goal by Robert Huth.

The win, Arsenal’s third in a row, sees the Gunners go sixth four points off the top four.

Leicester, on the other hand, stay 16th, six points clear of the drop-zone.

The opposition player has to maintain a certain distance at a throw-in no? Bizarre. Fair play to Schmeichel for keeping his team from swarming the ref.

  2. Rob says:

if the referee deemed it as intentional then it would be a red for Fuchs. Striking an appointment also covers striking with objects (including match equipment such as ball, corner flag, water bottle etc.)

I’ve gone, in the last few months, from thinking Sanchez is a decent player to being a complete shithouse.

  4. Rob 2 says:

Maria, you are right, it’s 2 metres, the ref is supposed to book the player if he doesn’t move.

  5. Bob says:

Of course it was deliberate, and of course he deserved it. Complete bellend

What a farce. The ref/lino should have sorted this out before the throw as Sanchez was clearly encroaching, and should have given him a yellow when he stopped Fuchs from releasing the first throw attempt.

As it happened, Sanchez should have gotten the yellow for encroachment, and probably another yellow for the play-acting. Fuchs should have been given a straight red for intentionally throwing the ball at an opponent’s face. Send them both off, end of. Soft punishment for tripe like this further legitimizes these embarrassing displays of “gamesmanship.”
