Have Arsenal stealthily assembled the best team in the country again?
For all their attractive football and their dominance of the 2004-05 season, you have been able to discount Arsenal as genuine title-contenders for the last couple of seasons. Thierry Henry ‘s exit this summer didn’t look like improving things, and yet the Gunners are top-of-the-table with a game in hand.
Cesc Fabregas has found yet another gear, Emmanuel Adebayor has grown in stature to fill the void left by Henry and Wenger’s relatively low-profile signings seemed to have slotted in well. In addition to that, the club’s reserves comfortably knocked Newcastle United – the fifth-place team in the Premier League – out of the Carling Cup last night and the latest figures show that the Gunners are now the richest club in the Premier League.
So, has Wenger assembled yet another title-winning side with minimum fuss or will Arsenal’s season peter out as their rivals find form?

I hope so!! Like most Gooners, i’m not counting my chickens but there is an air of excitement about The Arsenal at the moment. I’m looking forward to seeing how we do against the “big boys”. May this positivity continue for the rest of the season. And i hope the “second team” get a good run in The Carling Cup so they get some first team experience. All is well at Ashburton Grove so far …….

Before the season began, I genuinely believed that Arsenal would be even less of a force than has become standard over the years. No Henry, no signings of any real magnitude, other than the relatively unknown Brazilian/Croatian (?!) da Silva. This all pointed towards a season of mediocrity, with maybe the last Champions league place achievable.
However, they have started phenomenally well, showing an ability to not only play teams off the park, but also to then finish games off. Perhaps Adebayor, given a real run of games now Henry has departed, will prove to be the man to fill the former’s void? The depth of the squad, as mentioned above, was evident when the reserves beat a strong Newcastle side. That Flamini is keeping the now fit Gilberto out of the side is testament to this and with the likes of Denilson and Bentdner chomping on the bit to play, the future is looking very bright. All this and I haven’t even mentioned Fabregas!
