Do Arsenal fans secretly want to be knocked out of the Champions League by Milan?
I noted with interest that Arseblogger doesn’t seem massively bothered about tonight’s Arsenal vs Milan game. He writes: ‘Personally I’m a bit indifferent about the CL this season, it would be nice for the lads to have a good run, but I’ve got all eyes (yes, I said “all”) on the league title this season.’
I understand this attitude – would Arsenal fans endure a big defeat by Milan if it then guaranteed that they would go on to win the Premier League this season? Of course they would. Better that than to lose a CL semi final and finish second to Man Utd in the Prem, having blown a five-point lead.
It’s my belief that for Arsenal to win the Prem, they need to keep their best players fit. Their squad is not as strong as Man Utd’s – they can’t afford to rest players for league games because they have a Champions League semi final coming up, for example. A defeat to Milan would, perversely, be the worst result for Man Utd’s hopes of winning both the Premier League, and the best for the Gunners. Don’t you agree?
