Aston Villa 1-1 Southampton – Premier League – 24th November 2014
At a sparsely-attended Villa Park on Monday night, the home side secured what could be a precious point in their fight for survival in the top division.
Gabriel Agbonlahor had put the Villans ahead on the half-hour mark, with the the speedy attacker making the most of a mix-up between Toby Alderweireld and Fraser Forster. Not surprisingly, Ronald Koeman’s high-flying Saints pushed for an equaliser but it wasn’t until the 81st minute that Villa finally lost their lead and only after the home side had squandered a great chance late on. England man Nathaniel Clyne was the scorer for the visitors, firing home from a Ryan Bertrand centre.
Paull Lambert’s men, now without a win since the middle of September, go 16th, two points clear of the drop-zone. Southampton, on the other hand, stay second, six points behind Chelsea.
