Barcelona’s ghostly-paloured schemer, Andrés Iniesta, has come out on top of the pile in UEFA’s 2011/12 Best Player In Europe awards. The Spaniard beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the prize which is voted for by journos across Europe.

Iniesta, who was also named EURO 2012 player of the tournament after inspiring La Roja to another trophy, bagged 19 votes, two more than both Messi and Ronaldo, who usually tend to clear up at these kind of awards thingys.

On receiving the award in Monaco, the midfielder said:

“I’m very happy to receive such recognition. As I always say, such awards for one individual can’t be achieved without the whole team. So it’s a sensation that I want to share with my team-mates at the club, and in the national team. It’s recognition for the work that you have done well, and that people are proud and have faith in what you do.”

A worthy winner if ever there was one.

Wonder how much those three would cost now?
