Lionel Messi Fined €2,500 For Wishing His Mum A Happy Birthday
By Chris Wright
Barcelona jinkster Lionel Messi has been fined €2,500 (about £2,150) for wishing dear old Mami Messi a happy birthday after scoring against Racing Santander last weekend.
The referee did not see fit to caution Messi for the celebration at the time but did, however, mention the incident in his match report – therefore meaning that the Argentinian forward had to be put up in front of the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee, who duly punished him under article 91.1 (which presumably relates to heinous, grievous and generally abhorrent goal celebrations) which carries a mandatory fine of anywhere between €2000 and €3000.
Good to see a real deliquent get collared for once.

I’m sure he can afford it..
I think Barca should seek to get rid of him. Who knows what kind of shenanigans he’ll be up to next?! Completely untrustworthy person, that Messi.

“which presumably relates to heinous, grievous and generally abhorrent goal celebrations”
it actually relates to exactly what messi did, no messages are allowed on shirts or undershirts.
that’s not to say a fine for it is ridiculous though

i swear it seem like federations all over the world have a stick up there asses about celebrations… its ridiculous. the winner wins the loser loses and the winner should be able to do whatever the fuck he wants.. cause hes the winner.
It’s an original birthday present though. For that money he could have bought her some jewellery or a shitload of flowers. This means a lot more I reckon…
disgusting behaviour. next you know he’ll be scoring against birmingham and getting sent off for jumping in with the fans. i think a ban similar to kevin muscat’s is in order
This is that Kaka’s fault, the rascal!
shouldnt teves have been fined over ten thousand haha
Chump change for Mr. Messi.
