Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers – Premier League – 26th December 2011
You know things are bad when even your local bishop is telling fans to lay off the abuse, but for Blackburn’s under-fire boss Steve Kean, Boxing Day brought a bit of Christmas cheer (excuse the cliché) in a hard-fought draw at Anfield.
Charlie Adam gave the visitors the lead in first-half stoppage time, deflecting the ball into his own goal from a Rovers’ corner, but on 53 minutes, Maxi Rodriguez hit back with a header after good play from Martin Skrtel.
The Reds dominated the rest of the game, even throwing on a fit again Steven Gerrard in order to snatch a winner. However, Rovers, inspired by captain Chris Samba, stood firm. Reserve ‘keeper Mark Bunn made a number of superb saves while youngster Adam Henley produced a fantastic goal-line clearance at the death.
So it’s another two home points dropped for Liverpool while Kean will be hoping this superb result can kickstart Rovers’ season.
