“Holy crud! Total scorezone!”

We all knew this day would come eventually, but Brad Friedel has announced that he is to retire at the end of the current season.

Born in the same year the food processor was invented, Friedel will become the oldest player in Premier League history should he be given a ceremonial run-out during either of Tottenham’s final two games.

As well as holding the record for the most consecutive Premier League appearances (310), Friedel is also a member of that most exclusive of ancient masonic orders: the Premier League Goal-Scoring Goalies Knights Templar.

The order has but five members to date, with the American having completed his initiation way, way back in 2004 by thrashing one home against Charlton.

With Blackburn 2-1 down and with 90 minutes on the clock, Friedel displayed hitherto dormant predatory instincts and finished deftly past his opposite number, Dean Kiely, to square things up at the death…

Sadly, Blackburn still managed to lose 3-2 after conceding again in injury time – but why get bogged down in the facts?

Farewell Bradders, ye mighty old steed.

Really hope Tottenham let him play and break the record for oldest EPL player. He has served the league and the teams (4 of them?) he played for so well over the past two decades.

Great job, no thanks to AVB.
