“You’re not singing anymore!”

2. Bundesliga club Dynamo Dresden played in front of a sell-out crowd at their 32,066-capacity Glucksgas Stadion on Saturday despite the ground being completely empty for the entire duration.

Due to ‘fan excesses and abuse of fireworks’ during a cup game against Borussia Dortmund, Dynamo were ordered to play the tie against Ingolstadt ‘behind closed doors’ by way of punishment, but the club still put the “ghost tickets” on general sale, selling the last one on the Saturday evening before the game.

Apparently, Dresden fans snapped up all the tickets in a show of solidarity with the club and then gathered to watch the game on big screens outside the ground after the club vowed to “make space for everyone who can’t go into the stadium.”

Dresden were originally banned from participating altogether in the DFB-Pokal (German cup) next season after the violence in Dortmund last October, but the punishment was later reduced on appeal.

    What a league! Football and football support in this country is a joke in comparison.

    @ gamblino

    in fairness Germany isn’t near as fucked as the uk in terms of employment…people simply cant afford to go to football matches simple as

  3. gamblino says:

    Fair point and certainly wouldn’t expect people to pay for a match they wont see with the way things are.

    But in Germany they ensure that ticket prices are far more affordable. Fans also seem to put support first and have more realistic expectations of their clubs. So I don’t think you see as much of the petulant, reactionary “sack the board” support you’re likely to see at blackburn/villa/wolves at the mo. Our league is nothing more than rotten to the core big business and it’s reflected by the fans’ reaction when things get tough. The Bundesliga is still slightly protected by those 49/51 ownership rules. Here sky subscribers are valued far more than the average stadium filling punter.

    Did Dresden win?

    No. The game ended 0-0.

    Went to see St. Pauli v Dresden back in Nov. Their fans were banned for that one too. The Millwall of Germany, though ever so slightly right of centre.

    @sleeba

    although it’s nice of you to only call dresden fans slightly right of centre, they do have a big extreme right following. in fact, they are well known in germany for having right wing fans

    • Marco says:

      What a bullshit. Stop talking about something you don`t know. Dynamo has no problem with extremely right fans. In fact, the leading ultras have a friendship with the Horde Zla. A group with a lot of Muslims and they banned right supporters in the stadium. Furthermore, there are more than enough positive fan activities like 1953international. Gain some knowledge jerk.
