It’s hardly a well-trodden career path, but it seems that just eight months after leaving Hoffenheim and pretty much calling time on his footballing career, former Germany ‘keeper Tim Wiese may be about to sign on with the WWE as a professional wrestler.

Wiese, who has been busy bulking himself up into an 18-stone colossus since putting his goalkeeping career on the back-burner, has told Bild that, while no football clubs will touch him with a barge pole, a certain Vince McMahon has been tapping him up of late.

“I have an official enquiry from the WWE,” Wiese told the German paper. “It’s about working for them as a wrestler. I will listen.”

“I won’t s*** my pants. Why should I immediately say no? Wrestling is very popular, especially in the States.

“I will go through the enquiry with my agent next week.”

Of course, many wrestlers are cherry-picked from athletic backgrounds (mostly the biggest units American football has to offer), though the world of professional soccer is hardly a hotbed of Wrestlemania-ready meatwads.

That said, Wiese wouldn’t be the first goalkeeper to make the move to WWE, with former Port Vale and Burton Albion goalkeeper/man-mountain Stuart Tomlinson accepting an invitation to try-out with the company last December.
