Chances to give their Ruhr rivals a bit of a ribbing have been few and far between over the past few years, so with Dortmund slipping to the foot of the Bundesliga after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, their beloved neighbours Schalke 04 seized the opportunity to rub it in with gusto.

Appearing on Schalke’s English language Twitter feed, the mob from Gelsenkirchen gleefully rubbed Dortmund’s league standing in a bit before the message was deleted almost instantly…

Ouch.

As for Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp has hit out at the club’s myriad critics today as his side languish some 22 points behind leaders Bayern Munich with just 13 games played.

Quoted by Bild, Klopp said:

“I totally understand the criticism, that’s just human. I also understand the whistles. They are normal.”

“But everyone who whistles must also question himself whether it’s helpful to have a go at someone who just failed a test and tells him: You are too stupid to piss in the snow.

“But regardless of that, the situation feels disastrous. Nobody needs it.”

Klopp also had a message for those Dortmund fans who have become accustomed to silverware over the past few years and now demand nothing but continued success: “Go and become a FC Bayern fan.”

Boom. Don’t you just love him?

    no i don’t! he has no manners and has a bad attitude when he is losing. Should rather be an actor on MTV’s Jersey Shore.

    @hmhmhm: I smell a Schalke fan!

    Must be a nice situation for Klopp. He can bring Dortmund up into the Europa spot come end of season and be hailed the messiah and then leave to a top English club.

    Or fail this season in the Bundesliga completely, get Dortmund relegated and then leave to a top English club.

    Welcome to the Premiership, Herr Klopp!

    We’ve been expecting you…
