Following Jose Mourinho’s ousting at Stamford Bridge, we are now about to witness one of the biggest and most high-profile managerial merry-go-rounds in quite some time. However, while some Chelsea fans would no doubt have welcomed back with open arms the club’s former boss Carlo Ancelotti, according to reports, the former Real Madrid tactician is set to replace Pep Guardiola in the Bayern Munich hot-seat for the 2016/17 season.

Sky Italia broke the news, which is still to be confirmed, claiming that Bayern will announce both the departure of Guardiola and the arrival of Ancelotti this weekend. The 56-year-old Italian, who won the double with Chelsea in 2009/10, has been ”between jobs’ since getting the boot at Madrid in May, and is seen as the perfect man to take over the reins at the Bundesliga behemoths.

Ancelotti has enjoyed huge success in his managerial career (after a magnificent playing career), winning the Champions League three times, twice with Milan and once with Real Madrid. He also won the Ligue 1 title with PSG, leaving the Bundesliga as the last of the big five European leagues where he’s yet to test his powers.

As for Guardiola, he is decided not to renew his contract with Bayern, which will make him a free agent this summer. Manchester City remains his most likely destination, however Manchester United, managerless Chelsea and even Arsenal are all realistic options for the former Barcelona boss.

Ancelotti would seem like the perfect fit for Bayern right now. His pretty terrible league record wouldn’t be an issue as they seem to have the Bundesliga sewn up for the foreseeable future and his amazing Champions League record is exactly what they want.

I hope United get Guardiola. If he goes to City, then I’ll be really worried.
