Steve McClaren is the new manager of Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. So long Twente – he left them on a high (too much time in Dutch coffee shops perhaps?).

Schteeve has reportedly turned down the chance to return to England in favour of a new, wurst-filled experience in Germany. Good on him. He is a sponge, not a stone, it seems.

Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga title in 2009 but this season was a major disappointment. They sacked boss Armin Veh shortly after the winter break, and caretaker Lorenz-Gunther Kostner could only guide them to eighth in the league.

McClaren has signed a three-year deal. He’ll find the Bundesliga tougher to crack than the Eredivisie but I wish him well.

Time to brush up on your German accent, Herr Steve. Das schnitzel ist wunderbar.

Good for him. As an English manager not afraid to test his football knowledge and tactics abroad, he should be applauded.

Can’t wait to hear his thick German accent!
