On their way (most likely) to yet another Champions League trophy, the might Barca hammered Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night (10-2 on aggregate) with a certain Lionel Messi once again the star of the show.

The pint-sized Argentine became the first player ever to score five in a Champions League game as he took his total for the season (for both club and country) to 53 goals in 49 appearances. But could he do it on a rainy Tuesday night in Stoke?

We have to understand that 2 of the best (if not the 2 best) footballers ever to grace the planet are playing in our lifetime. History is being written before our eyes my friends!!!

I think there is too often over hyping of players these days. How many players get called great? rooney? Aguero? Silva? Lavezzi? Ibrahimovic? Bale? All of these guys are incredible footballers no doubt, but greatness should be measured against the current crop, and at the moment as long as messi is doing his thing none of these guys could be considered great. The bar is set at messi. Even Ronaldo, who at any other time during footballs history would probably have been the best player in the world is overshadowed and outplayed by messi. Not everyone will agree as its still reletivly early in his career, but for me Messi is the greatest player of all time.

Lovely goal by Leverkeusen, obviously learned a few things anyway!

Leverkusen’s high line was probably quite a good idea, could’ve been much much worse. It’s Messi and Shola at the moment for me, untouchable.
