Quarter-Final Euro Draws: English Sides Kept Apart While Barca Get PSG In The Big Cup
By Alan Duffy
The three English sides still left in Europe, albeit in the Europa League, missed out on meeting each other in the quarter-finals, as sports editors put away their ‘Battle of Britain’ headlines for at least another round.
Spurs arguably get the pick of the bunch, facing FC Basel while Chelsea will be confident of getting past Rubin Kazan. Newcastle, on the other hand, have a tricky tie with Portuguese giants Benfica to contend with.
Here’s the full draw:
Chelsea v Rubin Kazan
Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel
Fenerbahce v Lazio
Benfica v Newcastle United
The games will take place on April 4th and April 11th.
As for the Champions League, the draw has thrown up a couple of whoppers, with new-moneyed PSG facing Barcelona (what are the odds on Zlatan netting against his old side?) while Bayern Munich face Juventus in a clash of two of the traditional giants of the game.
Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund will fancy their chances against Malaga while Jose Mourinho’s Madrid will also be expected to overcome Galatasaray, although Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder will no doubt have a different opinion.
Malaga v Borussia Dortmund
Real Madrid v Galatasaray
Paris St-Germain v Barcelona
Bayern Munich v Juventus
The games will take place on 2-3 April and 9-10 April.

chelsea was also confident to get past steauau bucharest, and that was harder than everyone expected.
kasan is a good team, albeit an unknown one.
newcastle have by far the trickiest tie and tottenham should go past basel, but they also kicked out united, so all matches could go both ways.
should be interesting
I like how everyone is riding Barca’s dick now when just last week the media said they were done. Can’t wait for Barca to get eliminated so the media do another 180…again.
Tottenham fans happy to not get another Nazio draw. Are there right-wing thugs in Basel?
