Bayern Munich 2-0 Juventus – Champions League – 2nd April 2013

The Bayern player on the far right could do with a few extra training sessions…

In this clash of two of the traditional giants of European football, it was German giants Bayern who came out well on top, dominating the game at the Allianz Arena and securing a healthy two-goal advantage ahead of the return fixture in Turin.

Austrian David Alaba, a player who stock is rising rapidly, opened the scoring after just 25 or so seconds after his deflected shot beat Gigi Buffon in the Juve goal. And while the Italians did their best to get a foothold in the game after that, the home side looked comfortable for large periods of the contest.

Just after the hour mark, Thomas Mueller doubled his side’s advantage after Buffon could only parry a shot from Luiz Gustavo and that was that. The Italians did manage to test Manuel Neuer a couple of times before the end, but overall it was a fair result and one which leaves the Germans comfortably in the driving seat.
