Shakhter Karagandy 2-0 Celtic – Champions League Qualifiers – 20th August 2013

Kazakhstan Soccer Champions League

Neil Lennon’s Celtic side were left with a lot of work to do after going down 2-0 away at Shakhter Karagandy in Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier first-leg.

Playing on an artifical surface, the SPL giants went a goal down after just 12 minutes, courtesy of Andrei Finonchenko’s close-range effort. However, the visitors fought back and went close on a number of occasions, with Kris Commons hitting the woodwork. But ultimately, it would be the Kazakh side who would score again, when Sergey Khizhnichenko nodded in his side’s second of the night on 77 minutes.

The result sees the Bhoys with it all to do on home soil next week.

    Scottish Football is on par with that of the Northern Irish & Welsh divisions.

    Every year I wince when my local teams such as Linfield & Cliftonville enter the preliminary stages of the European cups.

    Why? Well, because they’re drawn against teams from countries that you don’t even know have clean running water, yet they’re stuffed every time.

    Let’s face it, we’re shite and we know it.

    @Jarren

    Well there’s Scottish football, and then there’s Celtic.

    The only thing that is separating Celtic from you’re Man Utds and Arsenals right now is Sky TV money.

    Pop Celtic in the English League Two next year and watch them challenge for the EPL title in 6-8 years tops.

    Btw, we will tank Borat FC at Celtic Park and grace the UCL for another year, never worry.

    Thanks for the laugh Dusty. Good use of irony there.
