A brace each from Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday night all but secured Real Madrid’s place in the last eight after a superb attacking display. The home side started well and had a chance to go ahead but ultimately the power and pace of Madrid’s attack simply proved too hot to handle for the Germans. Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar did bag a superb consolation goal at the death, but the Bundesliga side were simply outclassed.
