Real Madrid 1-0 Bayern Munich – Champions League Semi-Final First Leg – 23rd April 2014
Despite dominating for much of this semi-final first leg at the Bernabeu, European champions Bayern Munich failed to turn all that time on the ball into goals, with Real Madrid ultimately winning the game 1-0.
Karim Benzema was the goal-hero for the La Liga giants, netting on 19 minutes after a superb Cristiano Ronaldo pass had released Fabio Coentrao. Indeed, the Spaniards should have won the game by more than one goal, with Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria, amongst others, missing great chances. Bayern, on the other hand, struggled to test Iker Casillas, although sub Mario Gotze did go close late on.
So Carlo Ancelotti’s charges head to Munich a goal to the good to face a Bayern side desperate to become the first side to win the Champions League in consecutive seasons. It should be a cracker at the Allianz Arena.
