With Cristiano Ronaldo still stationed on 70 Champions League goals after failing to conjure his way past Kolo Toure last night, Lionel Messi has now pipped the Real Madrid star to equal Raul’s long-standing Champions League scoring record after bagging both goals in Barca’s 0-2 win over Ajax this evening.
Messi’s first of the evening took him level with Ronaldo on 70 (in 16 less appearances) before his second strike saw the Barca forward move level with Raul on 71 goals.
Here they both are, starting with No.70 (a towering header, no less!)…
No.71…
Messi will now be favourite to surpass Raul with Barca playing APOEL the day before Ronaldo’s mob take on Basel when the next batch of Champions League fixtures roll around.
