A late Javier Hernandez goal was enough to see Real Madrid overcome their local rivals and book a place in the last four of the Champions League.

This was another tense affair, with Diego Simeone’s Atletico proving a tough nut to crack at the Bernebeu.

Man Utd loanee Hernandez had a number of good chances to open the scoring for the hosts, but as in the first-leg, Atletico glovesman Jan Oblak was in superb form.

However, on 76 the game turned when Turkish wideman Arda Turan was given a second yellow for a challenge on Serio Ramos, with the Spaniard, unsurprisingly making the most of the foul.

On 88 minutes, the breakthrough finally came, with Cristiano Ronaldo providing a superb assist for Hernandez, who fired home from 12 yards.

Subbed off in injury time, the ‘Little Pea’ even shed a tear of joy, with his momentous goal coming after a season of frustration.

While Carlo Ancelotti’s men move into the last four, poor old Atletico will feel hard done by after performing well over the two legs.
