As an aperitif for the Champions League Final on Saturday evening, UEFA are laying on a glitzy exhibition match in Berlin that will see a host of former Barcelona and Juventus veterans unite against a Rest of the World XI in the name of charity.

With the likes of Youri Djorkaeff, Cafu and Clarence Seedorf representing the Rest of the World, the Barca-Juve side will consist of Edwin van der Sar, Alessandro Del Pierro, Deco, David Trezeguet, Fabio Cannavaro and many other star names.

Luis Figo was also invited along by UEFA as an ex-Barcelona legend, right up until the point that the Catalan club took umbrage at him wearing their shirt in public.

As you may recall, Figo somewhat burnt his bridges to a cinder at Barca when he jumped ship in 2000 to join Real Madrid.

Things got a little nasty thereafter. Indeed, the words “mercenary”, “scum” and “Judas” were bandied around quite freely, with various parts of pig anatomy also flung in his general direction.

After catching wind that UEFA had called Figo up as a Barca legend, the club contacted Platini’s cohorts directly to request that he be struck from the roster entirely.
