Champions League: Leicester Lose 5-0 To Porto, The Heaviest Defeat By An English Club In Champions League History (Video)

A mix-and-match Leicester City side endured a sobering night in Portugal on Wednesday, with the Premier League champions going down 5-0 to a rampant Porto side.

While the Foxes still qualified top of their group, the defeat, which is the biggest ever suffered by an English team in either the Champions League or European Cup, won’t do the Foxes’ confidence any good as they continue to toil domestically.

With the top spot in Group G already secured, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri gave starts to the likes of youngster Ben Chilwell and Jeff Schlupp. However, the Foxes’under strength side would find themselves after just six minutes, via an André Silva header.

A stunning volley from the rather fabulously named Jesus Coruna made it 2-0 on 26 minutes, as the hosts tore their English opponents apart.

Porto would finish the half 3-0 up, courtesy of a superb back-heeled effort from Yacine Brahimi.

Two more Porto goals would follow in the second-half, with Silva netting a penalty and Diogo Jota scoring late on.

Leicester rarely threatened the Porto goal throughout the 90 minutes, with Shinji Okazaki and Ahmed Musa (who was subbed at half-time) toothless in attack.

Despite the result, the worst by an English side ever in the Champions League or European Cup, Leicester still go through to the knockout stages as Group winners, which is some achievement for the club and a welcome distraction from their decidedly dismal domestic form.
