A brace from Angel Di Maria helped PSG to a shock 4-0 win against Barcelona on Tuesday night, with the Spaniards totally outplayed in the first leg of the Last 16 tie.

The French giants started superbly and took the lead through a superb free-kick from Di Maria on 18 minutes.

German winger Julian Draxler then doubled the hosts advantage just before the break as Unai Emery’s side totally dominated a lacklustre Barca 11.

In the second-half, the Catalans were once again second best, with Lionel Messi having little impact.

Ex-Real Madrid star Di Maria made it 3-0 for PSG on 55 minutes, via a fine curled effort.

Finally, on 71 minutes, Edinson Cavani, a thorn in Barca’s side all night, finally got on the scoresheet to seal an incredible victory in Paris.

French defender Samul Umtiti did hit the frame of the PSG goal late on, but overall it was a thoroughly one-sided affair.

With Luis Suarez and Neymar anonymous for most of the game and Messi struggling throughout, the Spaniards could’ve lost by more and now face a massive uphill task to turn around the 4-0 scoreline at the Nou Camp, something no side has ever done before in the competition.

As for PSG, they’ll be hoping that this result is a watershed moment as they strive to join Europe’s greats and ultimately lift the Champions League trophy in June.
