A second-half goal from the out-of-form Jamie Vardy kept Leicester City well in their Champions League Last 16 tie against Sevilla, with the Foxes losing 2-1 in Spain on Wednesday night.

Sevilla were the better side throughout the game and had a great chance to score early on, when Wes Morgan fouled  Joaquín Correa in the box. However, the Sevilla midfielder’s resulting spot-kick was saved by the superb Kasper Schmeichel.

The opening goal for the hosts did eventually come on 25 minutes, courtesy of a superb Pablo Sarabia header.

Sevilla were dominating possession with the Foxes struggling to get a foothold in the game and just after the hour-mark, it was 2-0 to the Spaniards, with Correa making up for his missed penalty with a close-range finish.

However, just when it looked as though Leicester could collapse, up popped Vardy, a peripheral figure for most of game, to turn in Danny Drinkwater’s fine cross and net a precious goal for the Premier League champions.

Overall, Sevilla, who also hit the bar, should have won by more. However, courtesy of some great goalkeeping from Schmeichel and that goal from Vardy, Claudio Ranieri’s side are still very much in the tie.

The two teams met again for the second leg on March 14th at the King Power Stadium in what should be a cracking game.
