Cristiano Ronaldo netted an outstanding hat-trick to fire Real Madrid to a thoroughly comprehensive 3-0 Champions League first-leg victory against rivals Atletico at the Bernabeu.

Real took the lead after just 10 minutes, with the 32-year-old Ronaldo rising above Stefan Savic to head home from a Casemiro centre.

The hosts bossed the rest of the first-half with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric imperious in midfield.

On the other hand, Atletico looked uncharacteristically frail, with Antoine Griezmann anonymous up front.

Despite their dominance, it would take Zinedine Zidane’s side until the 73th minute to double their advantage, with Ronaldo blasting a fine effort past Jan Oblak after getting the better of Felipe Luis.

Ronaldo then scored again on 86 minutes, with the striker calmly stroking the ball home from a Lucas Vazquez cut-back.

The game would end 3-0 on the night, with Real’s outstanding overall team performance surely sending them on their way to yet another Champions League final.

As for Diego Simeone and Atletico, they’ll no doubt be desperate to show their true colours in the return leg at the Vicente Calderon.

Ronaldo’s hat-trick means that winger-turned-striker has now bagged 103 Champions League goals (Atletico have only scored 100 in total), including 52 in the knock-out stages.

He’s also equalled Lionel Messi’s total of seven hat-tricks in the competition and passed the 400-goal for Madrid.

Truly incredible!
