Charlton Athletic have admitted that the CCTV footage of a couple getting…err, shall we say…”ardent” on their pitch that caused a storm was a publicity stunt of their own doing.

A short clip of sex Addicks being intimate on the centre spot at The Valley went viral on Thursday with the Vine in question receiving more than one million views.

As per the caption accompanying the clip, the pair were supposed to have broken into the stadium overnight before getting down to business…

However, it turns out that the suspiciously well-shot CCTV footage was – as most people immediately suspected – part of a social media campaign.

In fact, it was produced by the club themselves in a bid to hype their big “Score at the Valley” promotion, which offers fans the chance to hire out the pitch to play on over the summer off-season.

Charlton’s commercial manager Mark Hassan-Ali ‘fessed up the Press Association:

“We wanted to launch our pitch hire programme with a viral that would make football fans laugh.

“We released some ‘CCTV’ footage earlier in the week of a young couple on the pitch in a rather amorous situation.

“We then decided to own up and explain that it was set up by us to launch our pitch hire campaign.

“The feedback has been great and we can confirm that the young couple will be attending our next home match.”

Yes, this is the world we are living in.

The VHS-style static at the end is a giveaway.

As we all know, this is 1987.

Why not hire the pitch for an event with the couple actually doing it.. then it’d be worth it.
Otherwise I’ll stick to having events in the local parks adjacent. its free and there’s always a bit of dogging these days!
