Rubin Kazan 3-2 Chelsea (agg 4-5) – Europa League – 11th April 2013

A weakened Chelsea side stumbled to a 3-2 defeat on Rubin Kazan’s plastic pitch but it was still enough to secure safe passage to the semi-finals.

Fernando Torres opened the scoring on five minutes but after the break, the Blues, with the likes of Nathan Ake and Paulo Ferreira (yes really!) given a rare run-out, got all nervy in the second period, shipping three goals (including a penalty), although Victor Moses did bag himself one on 55 minutes.

The Russian’s third goal came on 75 minutes, leaving the Blues to stand firm for the last 15 minutes with the aggregate scores at 4-5. But ultimately, Rafa Benitez’s men were victorious as their season continues to bear fruit.
