Southampton 0-3 Chelsea – Premier League – 1st January 2014

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Southampton v Chelsea - St Mary's

A superb second-half cameo appearance from Oscar helped secure all three points for Chelsea on Monday, points which seem them keep the pressure on league leaders Arsenal. The Blues were the better side in the first period but couldn’t find a goal, however, the introduction of Oscar (for a rather irked Juan Mata) and Willian changed the game. Indeed, the first goal for Chelsea came after Oscar had hit the frame of the goal, with Fernando Torres eventually scoring. The Brazilian playmaker then set up fellow sub Willian for the second before making it 3-0 himself, although his terrible dive in the box was less impressive. While Mata looks set to leave Stamford Bridge, the Blues continue to impress and are sure to be there or thereabouts when the Premier League title is handed out in May. As for Southampton, they continue to drop points after what was a superb start to the season.
