Hardly the way Arsene Wenger would have wanted to celebrate his 1000th game in charge of Arsenal, was it? 4-0 down at half-time and with 10 men, it was a disastrous start for the Gunners. However, the biggest talking point was referee Andre Marriner’s decision to send off Kieran Gibbs for apparently stoping a shot with his hands. Except it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who had committed the foul. Indeed, Oxlade-Chamberlain even tells the ref “It was me”, but Marriner was having none of it. I guess Marriner thinks all though mixed-race lads look the same.

Also, it wasn’t even a red card offence, as the ball was going wide and a deliberate handball is only deemed worthy of a red if it clearly prevents  a goal being scored. An utter shambles all round!

Worst 90 minutes of my life. It was like a dentist was massacring my mouth while my whole family died in plane crash and Nicolas Cage announced end of career.

I bet all the goals shouldn’t have even been goals as well eh, Alan?

He dove to save the ball going in the goal. Are you retarded?

@JoeT…i also thought what you stated. however a sending off offense under the FA states “denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)”

hard to not give a red by the refs in that situation. From our angle yes it’s going wide, but deflected goals often end up in the back of the net so it’s hard to say it was OBVIOUSLY NOT an opportunity for a goal from the refs view…

Sorry @Joe T. I didn’t realize you were quoting the article!

    Apologies!

I suppose the only saving grace is that Gibbs will no doubt have his red rescinded and they’re probably not going to retroactively ban Ox…

This defeat felt like i was being crushed by a ten tonne David Friio lookalike from the Shetland Isles. Other than that it was business as usual for a young if not slightly incestuous Chelsea side. Agreed? Agreed. Sound.

Bloody good save mind, don’t arsenal have issues with their backup keeper ?
